While the game is on and be anywhere in the game except for the start screen or cut scenes, have another controller plugged into the 3rd slot on your gamecube. This can be done simply by unplugging your 1st controller and plug it into the third controller slot. During gameplay, press Z on the 3rd controller. You will get a random amount of items in random quantities in your backpack, moreover, you will get 99 of all tools and records for sure. If you do not like your items, simply repeat the process and you will get a different collection of items everytime.

During anytime in the game except start screen or cut scenes, plug a controller into the 3rd slot of the gamecube. Using that controller press Up on the control pad and you will have an alarm clock without being in chapter 2 and befriending Grant.
